Oslo-based shipbroking house Arctic Shipping is boosting its team, recruiting an experienced broker from Clarksons.

Sale and purchase broker Nicolai Olsen worked for 15 years for RS Platou as a senior partner. After that firm's merger with Clarksons, he spent three years as a director at London-headquartered shipbroking giant.

He was previously a partner with Lynx Maritime Partners, which offers financing on shipping investments.

Arctic Shipping chief executive Odd Jacob Fritzner said: “We got a chance and grabbed it. Nicolai is well-liked, has a strength in finance from his days at Lynx and is well-positioned in dry cargo.”

Arctic Shipping has been focusing on newbuildings and S&P. Earlier this year, the company recruited Lars Hammerstad from Wartsila to work newbuildings.

The company was formed in 2015 as a joint venture between John Fredriksen’s Gevaran Trading and Arctic Securities, but three years later Fredriksen pulled out and the broker was renamed Arctic Shipping.

Fritzner claimed that Arctic is now doing more business with the Fredriksen Group than when he was a shareholder.

He added says the secondhand market has started to pick up, especially for more elderly tonnage, and he even sees newbuilding contracts ahead.
