Shipbroker SSY is turning an experienced shipping executive into a shipbroker in its latest expansion move.
The London shop said it has recruited tanker chartering specialist Jesper Frohlich as director of period and specialised projects.
He will join on 2 September, having worked in the sector for more than 17 years.
Frohlich started out in 2007 at Danish owner Torm in Copenhagen, where he worked in operations and then chartering.
The Dane then made the move to Maersk Tankers in 2013, where he has since held a number of senior roles.
He has been global head of dirty products and head of clean products west of Suez, and is currently lead charterer for MR ships.
Staying in Copenhagen, Frohlich will work with the tanker projects team to “further build on SSY Tankers’ success”, both in Denmark and globally, the brokerage said.
Frohlich added: “I’m incredibly excited to join SSY. While I have worked for 17 years in the tanker industry, it has always been on the shipowning side.
“So it’s wonderful to get to work in a new area of an industry which I know very well,” he said.
Frohlich said he had spent most of his career in Copenhagen.
And he said he had always been “puzzled” by the lack of brokers in Denmark.
Changing perceptions
“And I think that is the general perception. I’m thrilled to be given the opportunity to change that perception,” Frohlich added.
Global co-head of tankers and partner Sean Miller said he was delighted to attract someone of Frohlich’s calibre.
“Jesper brings with him a wealth of experience and quality that will only serve to enhance our client offering in a space and geography we feel deserves further growth,” he added.
Last week, SSY bolstered its activities in the subsea space by hiring a well-known name from rival Fearnleys.
Martin Hestnes will join SSY in Dubai as manager of offshore, subsea and projects on 1 September, working alongside the group’s head of offshore, Frank Holck.
Hestnes was previously managing partner and board member of Fearnley Offshore Supply, where he worked for nine years.
Before that, he was head of offshore at Gibson Shipbrokers in London. He began his career at shipowner Boa Offshore.
