UK-headquartered shipbroker Simpson Spence Young (SSY) has closed a Norwegian office due to coronavirus.
It told TradeWinds that the Bergen base will be shut for 14 days as a precautionary measure.
The decision was taken after a cleaner at the office tested positive for Covid-19 and a member of staff subsequently developed flu-like symptoms.
The four-strong broking team focuses on chemicals and will be working from home, the broker added.
SSY chairman Mark Richardson said: “We have moved quickly to protect our staff and reassure clients that it is business as usual.
"We have robust contingency plans in place to ensure that any office can operate off-site if required.”
No one else at the company is currently working from home, with all other offices working normally, a spokesman added.
Covid-19 effects widening
The virus has continued to hit shipping on Thursday, following the revelation earlier this week that Greek shipowner Evangelos Marinakis had tested positive.
On Wednesday, an employee at shipowners' association Danish Shipping was also confirmed to have contracted Covid-19.
The staffer was being quarantined, while all close work contacts at the organisation were sent home.
Five or six external contacts were also being traced, it said, after meeting the employee last week.
The IMO also closed its London headquarters as a precaution, it said.
A worker at Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has also contracted the virus, and New York and New Jersey Port Authority boss Rick Cotton came down with it earlier this week.
