The Croatian government has begun talks with China over a potential restructuring of shipbuilder Uljanik Group.
Economy minister Darko Horvat confirmed discussions were underway with a visiting Chinese delegation, according to the Hina news agency.
But he would not confirm or deny whether Chinese prime minister Li Keqiang had contacted potential investors in China regarding the Uljanik and 3 Maj yards, which Croatia has refused to bail out.
Horvat said the Chinese party wanted to know what kind of ships could be built by Uljanik and asked to see project documentation.
Croatian media has reported that talks with representatives of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) were scheduled for 16 April.
Uljanik Group has been losing orders amid cash shortages and worker strikes, as well as an investigation into financial damage at the company.
