Exmar confirmed that it has found a new builder for two VLGCs after an initial deal for the newbuildings fell through earlier this year.
The Belgian shipowner said Monday that Shanghai-based Jiangnan Shipyard will build the Belgian shipowner two LPG-fueled 86,000-cbm gas carriers. TradeWinds reported last week that the Chinese state-controlled yard had won the LPG carrier deal.
The two ships are expected to be delivered in the second and third quarter of 2021 and will go into service with Norway's Equinor. The cost is reportedly between $73m and $74m per ship.
Exmar had originally cut a deal with Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Philippines for the two ships in late 2017, but it backed out when the yard suspended all shipbuilding contracts after defaulting on $400m in loans and filing for rehabilitation. The two ships were expected to be delivered in 2020 and have a capacity of 80,200 cbm.
