Norwegian Car Carriers (NOCC) has added a third LNG-fuelled ship to its orderbook at CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering.

Olave Sollie, chief executive of the Oslo-headquartered shipowner, revealed the deal in a LinkedIn post.

The Chinese shipyard will build a 7,000-ceu dual-fuel pure car/truck carrier.

“NOCC is ramping up its green fleet for the future,” Sollie wrote, noting that it is a “fun start of summer☀️”.

No price tag was given. VesselsValue estimates that a ship of similar characteristics would cost $89.7m to order today, though the contract is likely to have been an option from the company’s earlier order.

The order brings the shipowner’s pro forma fleet to six newbuildings.

CIMC Raffles is already building two PCTCs of the same characteristics for delivery in November 2025 and March 2026, according to Clarksons.

VesselsValue indicates that NOCC paid $88m per vessel.

LNG fuelling’s share of the alternative fuel orderbook has regained its dominance this year.

Environmental groups question its green credentials because of methane emissions. Shipping groups say, however, that efforts to reduce methane slip from engines are making progress.

For CIMC Raffles, a unit of China International Marine Containers Group, NOCC’s latest order brings its orderbook to 23 vessels. Four are floating storage, offloading and production units, while the remainder are PCTCs or ro-ros.
