German shipyard MV Werften has beefed up its offering with the takeover of Neptun Ship Design.

Rostock-based Neptun is Germany’s largest vessel designer.

It will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of the MV Werften group, adding 120 staff.

"We are pleased about the gain and the new, experienced colleagues in our team," said MV Werften managing director Peter Fetten.

"Their know-how is well known to us from an intensive cooperation. We value each other, we need this potential and we are all the more pleased about the new family member."

The purchase price is staying confidential.

Neptun boss Stephan Merkel said: "Of course, the purchase also takes into account the processing of current orders and the continuation of our research and ship development projects, ie the continuation of our traditions and our spirit of innovation.

"The fact that we are doing so under a new roof and with direct participation in the mega-projects also motivates us."

MV Werften is building six cruiseships at two sites in Germany.
