Russia’s state United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) is plotting a move into the ship propulsion sector.

It will build a plant called USC-Propulsion this year to produce systems for vessels, a spokesperson told the Prime news agency.

The idea is to completely replace imports, covering all Russian demand.

“In 2019, USC wants to create a centre of product specialisation in partnership with producers and developers of diesel and electric engines," the company said.

"The centre...will develop, produce, service, and upgrade propulsive systems for all projects implemented by USC group,” the company said.

The plant will be based at the existing Zvyozdochka shipyard.
