Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) will form four new shipyard groupings next year.

CEO Alexei Rakhmanov told reporters on Monday the reorganisation will take place in the first quarter.

“The number one task is to gather all production capacities, to analyse their effectiveness from the point of view of competitiveness and to transfer all vessel equipment to the competitive facilities," he added.

"Engineering hubs can be formed in the first quarter of next year, the necessary preparations are already being made."

The bases will be located in the north, north-west, south and far east of Russia.

It has also pledged to create a prototype of a vessel running on LNG by 2022, and it also plans to construct small ice-class cruiseships.
