Greek tanker and bulker owner Arcadia Shipmanagement is set to conduct its first move this year in the sale-and-purchase market.
US brokers claim the company is aiming to dispose of the 106,000-dwt Aegean Faith (built 2003).
The ship, which is not due for special survey until February 2023, has reportedly gone for a higher-than-expected $13m.
Valuation platform VesselsValue estimates that a ship with the characteristics of the Hyundai Heavy Industries-built Aegean Faith is worth just $11.1m, while rival Maritime Strategies International puts it at between $9.3m and $11m.
By comparison, compatriot Phoenix Energy Navigation has reportedly sold a similar tanker — the 104,000-dwt Phoenix Alpha (built 2003) — for just $11.9m. This ship has approximately the same class position. The shipowner had bought the ship as Finesse from Metrostar in 2004 for $53m.
Arcadia, which could not be reached for comment on this story, had ordered the Aegean Faith for $38m in 2000, operating profitably for a number of years.
The company last sold ships in May last year, offloading the 150,000-dwt Aegean Fighter and Aegean Miracle (both built 2017) to Onassis company Olympic Shipping for some $110m enbloc. Arcadia had ordered the duo in April 2014 for $68m each.
The shipowner is now listed with a fleet of 15 tankers with an average age of nine years. The fleet is made up of seven suezmaxes and eight aframaxes.
