In a statement Nasdaq-quoted CPP identified Stena Bulk as the charterer of the 150,000-dwt Amoureux (built 2008), which commanded $29,000 per day for two years.
The owner said its sponsor, Capital Maritime & Trading Corp (CMTC), hired the 160,000-dwt Amore Mio II (built 2001), which is poised to earn $27,000 daily for 12 to 14 months.
Prior to the two-year charter with Stena and 12-month extension Capital noted that the Amoureux and Amore Mio had been raking in $24,000 and $17,000 per day, respectively.
The Athens-based operator of 30 tankers, containerships and bulkers said both of the freshly-minted fixtures will likely commence in April of this year.
According to Omar Nokta of Clarkson Capital Markets, suezmaxes trading in the spot market are currently commanding $43,100 per day on average when hired to transport cargoes from West Africa to Europe.
In a client briefing issued earlier in the day the equity analyst pointed out that daily rates for the same type of tonnage stood at $15,900 a year ago.
Charles Rupinski, a forecaster at Global Hunter Securities, says suezmaxes are currently fetching $33,000 per day on average in the period market.
