Azerbaijan state owner Caspian Shipping has ordered two more tankers at the domestic Baku Shipyard.

Brokers said the 7,875-dwt chemical and product carriers will be delivered in 2021.

The company has been saying for months that an order for two tankers and two ro-ros was imminent at the government-owned yard.

No price was been revealed for the latest ships.

Caspian has a mixed fleet of 145 ships, including tankers, ro-ros, OSVs, MPPs, ferries and general cargoships.

It already has two tankers of the same size due from Baku in June and October this year, plus two ro-paxes also coming in 2019.

Last year, it said it was pressing ahead with fleet expansion plans by lining up OSV orders at Baku Shipyard.

Talks were ongoing for various vessels like a new 100-ton lifting capacity DP2 crane unit, a 50-ton lifting capacity DP1 crane vessel, a 50-ton bollard pull tug boat, and a 120-ton bollard pull anchor-handling tug supply vessel.

Another two tankers could also follow as part of a plan to acquire about 50 new ships by 2025.

Chairman Rauf Veliyev has said the deals could include both newbuildings and second-hand buys.

Baku Shipyard is a joint venture between national oil company Socar, Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) and Singapore's Keppel Offshore & Marine.

It was opened in 2013.
