Jens Gronning, one of the chemical tanker sector’s most well known personalities, has joined Navquim as its new executive director.

Navquim is an arm of the Sogestran Group that stems from the amalgamation in 2020 of the fleets of chemical tanker operators Team Tankers, Naviera Quimica and the De Poli Group.

Rotterdam and Marbella-based Navquim operates a fleet of 15 stainless-steel chemical tankers ranging from 8,000 dwt to 20,000 dwt, with multiple hold segmentation allowing the transportation of various chemical parcels at the same time.

Gronning, who will divide his time between both offices, announced his new position at the company via a social media post this week.

Since graduating from the Niels Brock Copenhagen Business College in 1991, Gronning has enjoyed a shipping career that has spanned nearly three decades which has seen him involved with different shipping segments from chemical and product tankers to multipurpose heavylift and container ships, along with the dry bulk and third-party technical ship management sectors.

Gronning is best known in the industry for his leadership roles at Eitzen Chemicals, United Arab Chemical Carriers, Team Tankers and Chemical Tankers Inc (formerly known as Navig8 Chemical Tankers), where he is credited for playing an instrumental role in their growth.

For the past seven years Gronning has been a co-owner and partner at Otto Danielsen, a Copenhagen-based shipping company established in 1944 that has been transformed into a boutique marine asset management platform.

The tanker veteran is also on the board of Algoma Central Corp.
