China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES), a Shanghai-listed tanker and bulker arm of China Merchants Group, has appointed president Xie Chunlin as its new chairman.

According to exchange filings, Xie was appointed during a board meeting on Wednesday after Su Xingang resigned as chairman.

Xie will continue to serve as president on an interim basis before the board elects someone to replace him, one of the filings said.

Xie, also a board director, has been CMES’s president since September 2012. He was China Shipping Development’s deputy general manager between March 2009 and September 2012.

Previously, he had also served as managing director of China Shipping (Indonesia) Co, managing director of China Shipping (Netherland) Agency, and vice-president of China Shipping Europe Co.

Xie held an executive master's degree of business administration from Shanghai Maritime University.

Su, who joined China Merchants Group in 2005, will continue to serve as a board director for CMES.
