Norwegian tanker owner DSD Shipping has disposed of its second aframax this year.
European brokers said the Yuhong Hermansen-controlled company has offloaded the 105,000-dwt Stavanger Bliss (built 2008) for $19.5m.
That is higher than an estimate by valuation platform VesselsValue, which says the Sumitomo Heavy Industries-built tanker is worth just $17.8m.
DSD Shipping chief executive Arild Ervik confirmed the tanker has been sold. He declined to comment on the details of the sale “as it has been concluded on private terms”.
In January, DSD sold another Sumitomo-built aframax.
The 105,000-dwt Stavanger Eagle (built 2009) fetched $18.5m in a sale to Coral Shipping of Greece.
For DSD, the sale of the Stavanger Bliss is part of a fleet renewal process.
The company now appears to be concentrating on smaller product tankers.
In 2019 and 2020, DSD Shipping took delivery of four MR tanker newbuildings from Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding, part of South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings.
These tankers had a price tag of $32m each, plus the cost of installing scrubbers.
Company director Marianne Fronsdal said the company's sales are in line with a strategy to reduce its exposure to older ships.
DSD Shipping is part of Det Norske Dampskibsselskab (DSD), which is controlled by Yuhong Hermansen. She is the widow of the late shipowner Folke Hermansen.
