Dynacom Tankers Management is dismissing reports it is selling an ageing panamax trio on the secondhand market.

Brokers said last week that the George Procopiou-led company agreed to offload the 70,400-dwt ice-class-1A crude tankers Ice Energy and Ice Victory, as well as the 70,300-dwt Ice Fighter (all built 2006), for $72m in total.

A Dynacom manager told TradeWinds, however, that this information is wrong.

Not only have the three ships not been sold but they have not even been the subject of sale discussions with any other party, according to the executive.

The Ice Energy, Ice Victory and Ice Fighter were built at Onomichi Dockyard in Japan.

Instead of reducing its fleet, Dynacom has taken steps to enlarge it with a giant newbuilding programme that is currently underway.

Procopiou placed orders for 46 tankers worth close to $3.6bn since February 2023, according to data compiled by TradeWinds.

The most recent order has been for four suezmaxes worth $334m in total at Samsung Heavy Industries.

The South Korean yard subcontracted the quartet to PaxOcean Zhoushan in China.

All of the other 42 tanker newbuildings that Dynacom has ordered over the past two years have been entrusted with other Chinese shipyards.

The deals have been split between New Times Shipbuilding, Hengli Heavy Industries, Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, CSSC Tianjin Shipbuilding and Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry.

Procopiou has been the leading Greek owner in renewing its fleet with green fuels.

Instead of waiting to see which future fuel will win the race to become the predominant green fuel in the future, Dynacom has been ordering vessels with the most fuel-efficient conventional technologies available today.
