E&S Tankers has appointed Malte Willer as its new managing director.

He will succeed Jan Eghoej, who had held the position for three years.

Eghoej, who is set to depart next month, wrote on LinkedIn: “I will for sure miss you guys and our great Team here in Hamburg.”

He described Willer as the right person to develop the company, while offering no indication of the reasons behind the change or his next destination.

E&S Tankers said: “Malte Willer has a strong knowledge of the European chemical tanker market and together with the rest of the E&S team will continue the strategic path to remain the market leader in the European shortsea market.”

E&S Tankers is a joint venture between two of Europe’s leading parcel tanker operators, Essberger Tankers and Stolt Tankers.

Willer has been E&S Tankers’ commercial manager for three years. Before that, he worked for two years at John T Essberger.

E&S Tankers has also appointed Christian Vang commercial director, heading its chartering department.

Vang has worked for three years as a commercial manager at E&S Tankers and John T Essberger.

“Christian brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from the shipbroking and chartering side, having previously managed all spot activities within E&S Tankers,” the company said.

Willer and Vang have a combined 40 years of experience in the industry, it added, and are expected to further drive and develop the business.

“We would like to thank Jan Eghoej for all his efforts in transforming the company together with the team to become much more customer centric based on long-term partnerships with our valued customers,” said E&S Tankers.

Previously, Eghoej had outlined E&S Tanker’s ambition to be an enabler for decarbonisation and sustainability.

Last week, TradeWinds reported that John T Essberger was in talks with shipyards for an order for up to 10 methanol dual-fuel chemical tanker newbuildings.
