Erik Thun Group has boosted its orderbook to 15 vessels with a new deal in the Netherlands.

The Swedish owner said on Wednesday that it is putting in orders for two more methanol-ready product tankers and two more multipurpose dry cargo vessels with Dutch builder Scheepswerf Ferus Smit.

Financial details were not disclosed for the deal with the shipyard where it already has 10 vessels on order.

“[The vessels] set a new standard in efficiency, performance and sustainability, for example, equipped with battery pack and ready for shore electricity connection,” Erik Thun deputy managing director Henrik Kallsson said.

“These series exemplify our unwavering commitment to sustainable shipping and pave the way for a greener and more prosperous future.”

The tankers are deemed resource efficiency class vessels and are intended for coastal trading with the group’s Thun Tankers arm.

The company has six such ships on order and said the first, the 8,000-dwt Thun Resource (built 2024), is set for delivery shortly.

The MPPs have a capacity of 5,100 dwt and come with an ice-class 1B notation. The company described them as Lake Vanern Max as they are fit for operating on Sweden’s Lake Vanern. It has four of those ships on order.

Fourteen of Thun’s 15 vessels on order are at Ferus Smit. The remaining ship is an 18,000-dwt chemical tanker set for delivery this year. It will be operated by compatriot Furetank, according to Clarksons. The broker said the company controls 48 vessels.

Thun first announced orders with Ferus Smit last January.

It said three newbuildings will hit the water this year, with three more next year, three in 2026 and four in 2027.

VesselsValue estimates the tankers are worth $18.7m each, while the MPP dry cargo vessels are valued at just over $12m.
