Nasdaq-listed Grindrod Shipping has revealed it is booking an impairment on two MR tankers offloaded this year.
The Singapore-based shipowner said the 40,000-dwt Rhino (built 2010) and Inyala (built 2008) have been sold for $15.3m and $14.5m, respectively.
The MR tankers were disposed of in two separate transactions, the company added, without revealing the buyers.
TradeWinds reported last month that Greece's Medcare Shipping had snapped up the Rhino, which was its first tanker purchase in at least 15 years.
The price reported at that time was $15.5m.
Grindrod was previously reported to have sold the Rhino in early March to unidentified buyers for about $16m, as well as the Inyala for $14.5m.
However, negotiations to sell the Rhino dragged on for a few more weeks.
Impairments booked
Grindrod said it had updated its 2019 results after recording an additional impairment loss of $8.1m from selling the duo.
The deficit for 2019 is now $43.5m.
Grindrod has also agreed to amend the charterparty relating to the 58,000-dwt supramax bulker IVS Pinehurst (built 2015).
The company had earlier extended the charter-in for a period of about five to seven months from 3 May.
Grindrod still has a purchase option on the ship, but it no longer has options to extend the period of the charter. The vessel is listed as owned by Ratu Shipping of Japan.
Grindrod has five MRs remaining, plus a smaller tanker, under its Unicorn Shipping division.
The bulker business operates under Island View Shipping, including 17 handysizes and 14 supramaxes and ultramaxes.
