Horizon Tankers has capitalised on the rising tanker market by selling two 16-year-old aframaxes.

US brokers said the Greek shipowner has offloaded the Hyundai Heavy Industries-built, 115,000-dwt Gardenia (built 2003) to a South East Asian buyer for $13.2m, while the Samsung Heavy industries-built, 104,000-dwt Voyager C (built 2003) has gone for $13.25m.

Anthony Comninos-led Horizon did not respond to a request for comment.

Some sources said the Voyager C had gone to Dubai-based Marshal Shipping, but this outfit also did not respond to requests for comment. Earlier this month, Marshal bought the 99,000-dwt tanker Hildegaard (built 1999) from Finland’s Lundqvist Rederierna.

If confirmed, these sales will mean solid profits for Horizon.

Horizon purchased the Gardenia from DHT Holdings for $11.9m in November last year, when it was named the DHT Sophie. It had just passed special survey.

The company bought the Voyager C from OMC Shipping for $10.8m in January last year, when it was the Vega Voyager.

Horizon is listed with a fleet of eight MR tankers and three aframaxes. Affiliate Target Marine has a fleet of 10 bulkers ranging from supramaxes to panamaxes.
