Kristian Gerhard Jebsen Skiprederi has sold the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries-built 158,000-dwt SKS Satilla (built 2006), with shipbrokers saying the tanker has gone to a Vietnamese buyer for $23m.
Geir Mjelde, chief executive of the Norwegian shipowner, did not respond to a request for comment.
But if the reported price is correct, it appears to reflect a firming market, with VesselsValue estimating the tanker to be worth $21.3m.
The SKS Satilla is not due for special survey until 2025.
Last month, the sistership SKS Spey (built 2007) was sold to F Gas Petrol for $24m.
And in February, a third sistership — the SKS Segura (built 2007) — was offloaded to the same company for about the same price. The latter has already been renamed Caro.
The SKS Segura and SKS Satilla were put up for sale in September last year.
Jebsen sold another two LR3 tankers in 2020. Some observers see the sales as part of a fleet-renewal programme, but others view it as a debt-reduction strategy.
Jebsen also owns six modern kamsarmax bulkers in 50:50 joint venture Bulk Trading Group with JP Morgan, and has two kamsarmaxes on lease from Japan Marine United.
The Bergen-based owner is also a leading player in the cement business, and is owned by Hans Peter Jebsen and his family.
Last year, the owner handed over its management activities to OSM Maritime.
