Greece's Liquimar Tankers Management Services is facing pollution charges in the US.

A federal grand jury in Wilmington, Delaware, has returned a four-count indictment against the company, shipowner Evridiki Navigation and chief engineer Nikolaos Vastardis, Bunkerspot reported.

The charges relate to the 167,000-dwt tanker Evridiki (built 2007).

Falsifying records

They include failing to keep accurate pollution control records, falsifying records and the obstruction of justice.

The indictment alleges that in March, the engineer failed to maintain an accurate oil record book in a bid to conceal illegal overboard discharges of oily bilge water from US Coast Guard (USCG) inspectors.

When the ship’s pollution control equipment was inspected by the USCG, Vastardis is alleged to have made false statements.

Liquimar told TradeWinds it could not comment on a pending legal case.
