Lomar Shipping, owned by the Logothetis family, has introduced a new name for the German product carrier and chemical business it acquired more than two years ago.
The four MR tankers still trading in its fleet after the $160m acquisition of Carl Buttner in March 2022 will now do so under the CB Tankers name, London-based Lomar said in a statement.
“The Carl Buttner name will return to the family who contributed so much to establish its presence in this specialist segment of shipping,” Lomar Shipping chief executive Nicholas Georgiou said.
Lomar had acquired four product tankers and two chemical carriers from Carl Buttner — a business owned and managed by the German family since 1856.
Since then, Georgiou sold the two chemical carriers in the fleet and incorporated all other previous ownership and management elements into the existing Lomar structure, including the CB Maritime crewing agency.
Georgiou said: “The Carl Buttner family name has been synonymous with technical management expertise and a strong maritime legacy.
“[We] look forward to continuing to build on this brand and business moving forward.”
The current CB Tankers fleet comprises the 37,900-dwt CB Adriatic (built 2019) and CB Baltic, CB Caribic and CB Pacific (all built 2020).
The ships were built at China’s Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co.
CB Tankers is led by joint managing directors Lars Bremer and Christian Mackenthun.
Mackenthun is the son of Thorsten Mackenthun, the long-time managing director of the Carl Buttner Group of companies.
