John Angelicoussis-backed Maran Tankers’ has declared its final suezmax option at Korea's Daehan Shipbuilding.
The yard said on Thursday that the last ship of four, a 157,000-dwt tanker, has been firmed up with the Greek owner.
The Haenam-based shipbuilder had said in February that Maran signed up for a suezmax by exercising an option it held for a tanker that was linked to an order placed at the yard in November.
Delivery of that vessel was set for the last quarter of 2020.
Shipbuilding sources told TradeWinds the option was part of a deal for two suezmaxes that were originally ordered by Norway’s Faerder Tankers, the start-up headed by ex-Nordic American Tankers chief financial officer Turid Sorensen.
They are due for delivery in August and November of next year.
“Faerder novated the suezmax tanker newbuildings to Maran,” one shipbuilding source said.
How much Maran is paying for the scrubber-fitted ships is not known, but Faerder was reported to have paid about $62m each.
