N2Tankers has seen its pool shrink by two vessels as the hot tanker market attracts ships into spot trading.

TradeWinds reported in January that the aframax pool had reached a fleet of 15 vessels.

This figure is now down to 14 aframaxes after an undisclosed tanker exited the pool.

In addition, Singapore shipowner Pusaka Laut, which has three ships in N2Tankers, has reportedly sold one of its trio. The company reportedly offloaded the 104,000-dwt Nanyang Star (built 2012) to an undisclosed buyer for $32m.

The tanker, built at Sumitomo Heavy Industries, is not due for special survey until March 2022.

N2Tankers and Pusaka Laut did not respond to requests for comment.

The Nanyang Star was the first tanker that the Singapore-based shipowner put into the pool. In January, the company also added the 108,000-dwt Pusaka Borneo (built 2018) into the N2Tankers fleet after Teekay Tankers redelivered the vessels from a time charter.

The sistership Pusaka Java (built 2018) also joined the pool after ending a charter to K Line.

N2Tankers was formed in October 2018 by Reederei Nord and Japan’s Nissen Kaiun. It initially operated a fleet or 13 modern, Japanese-built aframax tankers. The fleet then consisted of seven crude tankers from Nord and six from Nissen.

The pool manager has earlier expressed an interest in growing N2Tankers into an operation of between 20 and 30 aframaxes.
