Ardmore Shipping is believed to have sold off the first ship it bought back in 2010 following its foundation.

New York-listed Ardmore has sold the 45,744-dwt Ardmore Seafarer (built 2004), according to shipbroking sources.

A price of $9.7m is being placed on the vessel, which Ardmore bought as the Zao Express for around $25m.

While no specific buyer has yet emerged, brokers say a Middle Eastern shipping company has purchased the tanker.

Ardmore officials could not be reached for comment on the situation at the time of writing.

Chief executive Tony Gurnee told TradeWinds in a 2017 interview the selection the name Ardmore Seafarer for its first tanker reflected the importance the company placed on its crew.

Ardmore today has a fleet of almost 30 tankers on the water.
