Norden has emerged as the charter of the latest vessel to be acquired by Carsten Mortensen-led Dee4 Capital Partners.

The private equity fund said in a statement that the Danish shipowner had agreed to take the Dee4 Elm for between 12 and 15 months. Financial terms were not disclosed.

TradeWinds reported in late January that Dee4 had bought Japanese owner Fuyo Kaiun's 47,000-dwt MR product carrier Rich Wind (built 2009)

The acquisition was its fifth since the firm was founded by Mortensen and private equity professional Freddie Lee in 2019.

All five ships are MR tankers with one ship placed in the Hafnia spot pool and the other three chartered to Gunvor’s Clearlake Shipping.

The Dee4 fleet also comprises the 53,688-dwt Dee4 Acacia (built 2006), the 53,712-dwt Dee4 Birch (built 2006), the 45,944-dwt Dee4 Cedar (built 2010) and the 47,399-dwt Dee4 Dogwood (built 2008).

All five vessels have been built at Japanese shipyards – either Shin Kurushima or Onomichi Dockyard and are either DIS or Singapore flagged.

Mortensen served as chief executive and president of Norden between 2005 and 2014. He later went on to become CEO of BW Group between 2015 and 2018.
