Norden is welcoming two MR tankers back into its operations in a deal with Pertamina.
The Copenhagen-based company said on social media on Friday that it had reached an agreement with the Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company to add the 49,600-dwt PIS Kalimantan and PIS Jawa (both built 2015) to their pool.
“We are pleased to welcome Pertamina to our pool, reaffirming that our theory to join forces will enable both organisations to become even stronger by leveraging the united values and strong competencies,” said Norden head of pool management Soren Huscher.
Huscher added that the deal includes an exchange of office personnel “to ensure optimal conditions for knowledge sharing”.
Both vessels were owned by Norden until late last year when they were reportedly sold to Greek interests.
Up until then, the PIS Kalimantan was known as the Nord Sustainable, while the PIS Jawa appears to still be using its Nord Supreme moniker.
The ships were said to be sold for $39m each.
Norden confirmed the identity of the vessels to TradeWinds over the weekend.
In the post, Pertamina Asia Pacific’s managing director M Resa said the ships were the company’s two newest.
“We are confident that [Pertamina International Shipping] and Norden can synergise effectively to bring substantial benefits for both companies. This collaboration marks the beginning of what we hope will evolve into a bigger partnership,” he said.
According to Clarksons, Pertamina has a single vessel in the Norden Tanker Pools, the 45,900-dwt PIS Polaris (built 2010).
The pool appears to be comprised of 80 ships, while Clarksons lists 19 vessels in its ownership, including eight chemical tankers.
