Sea Tank Chartering-affiliated holding company Tank AS has purchased a product and chemical tanker from Turkish shipowner Kaptanoglu.
The company reportedly purchased the Desan Shipyard-built 6,400-dwt Tana (built 2011) for $9m.
Tank joint managing director Sigbjorn Tysse confirmed the purchase and said the company already had a similar ship. He said Tana“hopefully will be taken over before the end of the year”.
Sea Tank operates a fleet of 16 small chemical tankers of between 2,000 dwt and 6,500 dwt. Twelve of them are owned by subsidiaries of Tank AS and four are on time charters. They are mainly employed in the North Sea or in the Baltic.
Tank AS was launched 12 years ago by former seafarers Tysse and Torbjorn Vedaa, who both worked in the small tanker division of compatriot Utkilen.
They both have a 50% stake in Tank AS. This company last year had a pre-tax profit of NOK 12m ($1.5m) on revenue of NOK 563m.
The company’s report for 2017 stated that it operates in a weak market marked by tough competition.
The book equity stood at NOK 141m at the end of 2017.
Kaptanoglu has reportedly also sold another-Desan built tanker, the 3,400-dwt Toli (built 2009) for $5m, to Sanmar of Greece.
