Norway's OSM Maritime Group founder and chairman Bjorn Tore Larsen is back at the helm of the company.

He will become chief executive from 4 March, the shipmanager said.

The controlling shareholder previously held the position up to 2013.

The company was set up in 1989 and now has 11,000 staff running more than 500 ships.

Current chief executive Geir Sekkesaeter will continue as managing director of OSM Norway and be responsible for the group's Arendal-based operations.

Larsen told TradeWinds: "There is a time for everything and, although I have not been in cold layup for the last six years, I am thrilled to be back in a more active role.

"Geir is also very happy with the move. The change came on his initiative, as he wanted to have a more hands-on operational job, and thus elected to be in charge of OSM Norway where we have experienced significant growth lately."

Focus remains on safety and quality

Larsen added in a statement: “I am looking forward to working even closer with the management team and all colleagues at OSM.

"We will continue to be focused on safety and quality, and to constantly improve our service to our customers through continuous development of people and technology. We are grateful for Geir’s contribution to OSM as the CEO over the last six years."

Larsen said: "He has been instrumental in building OSM as a leading ship manager with a global footprint, with significant growth during his leadership. We are also very happy to see Geir in his new role where he will be focusing on further strengthening ship management, rig management and crew management operations done out of Arendal."

Sekkesaeter added: “I am very pleased to continue working for OSM and to focus even more on our services and activities out of Arendal, one of the main centres of OSM’s global operation."

Last year, Oaktree Capital Management took a 49% stake in OSM, with Larsen retaining his majority stake.
