Danish state pilotage service DanPilot has suffered a steep drop in profit and revenue due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

There have been fewer pilots in ports as Denmark imposed restrictions on shipping and crew transfers, hitting ferry and offshore operations particularly hard.

In the first six months, DanPilot's profit more than halved to DKK 4m ($0.63m), the company said.

DanPilot is expecting earnings of between DKK 5m and DKK 7.5m for the full year.

Revenue was down DKK 81.4m to DKK 211.5m in the first six months.

The company blamed lower activity and reduced pricing.

Bosses are forecasting revenue of between DKK 400m and DKK 420m in 2020 as a whole, down from DKK 480m in 2019.

"The outlook reflects the uncertainty associated with the current Covid-19 pandemic," DanPilot said.

"The development is characterised by a generally smaller activity in the larger ports, and declining activity in the smaller and medium-size ports," the company said.

However, DanPilot added: "The [pilot] transit segment as a whole has had a virtually unchanged activity compared to the average in the first half of 2019."

The company had to contend with servicing smaller ships and shorter sailing routes.
