Earnings on the route climbed by more than 13% midweek as a busy end to the July programme helped rates reach $72,400 per day, according to Clarksons Platou Securities.
“This activity bodes well for next month's loading program, due to begin next week, as rising spot rates just before the start of a new month's cargoes tend to allow for a strong level of support,” analyst Omar Nokta wrote in a report.
According to Howe Robinson Partners VLCCs were earning $73,550 daily when adjusted for slow steaming at the end of the European business day Wednesday.
This compares to the $65,163 per day average in the year to date, the broker’s data shows.
