Shipping Corp of India (SCI) has signed an agreement to buy a Greek suezmax.

The company said it would acquire a ship of 158,710 dwt, owned by Fidelity Shipping.

The only vessel in the global fleet matching this specification is the Aegean Navigator (built 2007), operated by Arcadia Shipmanagement.

SCI told TradeWinds earlier this year it was in talks for the Arcadia vessel.

The price has been estimated at a very firm $31m. VesselsValue says similar suezmaxes are worth around $28m.

Broking sources questioned why SCI seems to be paying a premium for a suezmax that has its special survey due in June.

But SCI said the price was reached after thorough evaluation in a public tendering process.
