Scorpio Tankers has disposed of some ships — for real this time.
The New York-listed product tanker giant said on Wednesday that it had sold the 50,000-dwt STI Larvotto and STI Le Rocher (both built 2013) for $36.2m each.
The buyer was not disclosed.
“The company will make no debt repayments associated with these sales as these vessels are unencumbered,” Scorpio Tankers said. “The sales are expected to close within the first half of 2024.”
The prices are roughly in line with VesselsValue estimates, which peg the STI Larvotto at $36.4m and the STI Le Rocher at $36.2m.
News of this deal comes after confusion in the market over the sale of five other MR tankers — the 50,000-dwt STI Bronx, STI Brooklyn, STI Manhattan, STI Queens and STI Gramercy (all built 2015) — reported by brokers.
But TradeWinds reported earlier this month that the reports conflated the New York-themed Scorpio Tankers vessels with the sextet purchased by fellow US owner International Seaways from Wayzata Investment Partners.
Both sets of ships were built at about the same time at South Korea’s SPP Shipbuilding.
Four of the ships in the International Seaways-Wayzata deal sold for $32.5m each, while no price was reported for the other two.
The sale leaves Scorpio Tankers with 109 product tankers — 56 MRs alongside 39 LR2s and 14 handymaxes.
Another recent deal collected by VesselsValue involves the 50,000-dwt Dong-A Triton (built 2015) changing hands from Dong-A Tanker to a Greek buyer for $37.3.
