Splosna Plovba has sold two nine-year-old supramax bulkers as it continues to trim its fleet, according to European brokers.

The Slovenian shipowner has reportedly sold the 56,000-dwt Trenta and Tamar (both built 2010) for about $10m to $10.3m each. It is considered likely that the buyer is a Chinese-based company.

Splosna and major shareholder Dohle Group did not respond to requests for comment.

Market expectations

The price for the Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry-built sisterships is in line with expectations.

In December 2016, Splosna sold a third sistership, the Portoroz (built 2011). The supramax, which was then five years old, went to P&P Shipping of Greece for just $9.4m.

The ship is now trading in the P&P Shipping fleet as the John Patmos.

The sale of the Trenta and Tamar mark the second time that Splosna has offloaded ships this year.

In March, Splosna sold the 4,043-teu containership Maribor (built 2005) for demolition. The ship changed hands in an “as is” sale in Singapore for $443 per ldt, or $7.6m.

The Slovenian owner has kept the sistership Pohorje (built 2006). The two ships were purchased in July 2011 in what has so far been the last acquisition by the company.

Splosna is today listed with one containership and six supramax bulkers with an average age of 10 years. All of the supramaxes are operated by Dohle Group. Splosna was set up 63 years ago and in 2009 had as many as 23 ships.

Splosna ordered its Jiangsu Hantong-built supramaxes in 2008, reportedly for $63m each
