Little-known Greek shipowner Stanislav Raspopov has made a huge profit by offloading an MR tanker bought two years ago.

The 48,000-dwt Grace Fortuna (built 2007) has gone for about $23m, TradeWinds is told.

The vessel was bought by Raspopov-controlled Grace Energy Shipping (GES) for $13m from NYK Line in April 2022.

One broker called the strong price “a tidy capital gain”.

The Cook Islands-flagged ship was formerly the Pegasus Challenge.

VesselsValue assesses the tanker as worth $21.16m, up from $13.3m two years ago.

TradeWinds understands that the sale of the Grace Fortuna was motivated by profit realisation and fleet renewal objectives.

The MR2 was reported to have been fixed on a six-month time charter by Eiger Shipping in Switzerland in September last year. The rate was not known.

The ship is managed by Cymare Shipmanagement of Cyprus, together with some other GES tankers.

GES has been contacted for comment.

Raspopov unveiled details of the new MR tanker operation to TradeWinds last year after a series of recent acquisitions.

Bases in Athens and Dubai

The former Navig8 Group commercial analyst and shipbroker set up GES in Athens and Dubai.

GES told TradeWinds that special purpose vehicles controlled by Raspopov as the ultimate beneficial owner of the company had acquired six vessels since 2022.

Raspopov is also involved in R Shipping of Greece, a ship manager set up in 1998 by Igor Raspopov and specialising in tankers and LPG carriers.

UK Companies House filings show that Raspopov, 32, was a Russian national before he became a Greek citizen resident in London in 2022.
