A listing tanker has run aground following a collision with a bulker off Antwerp.

Belgian media reported the incident took place on Wednesday morning on the Scheldt river.

The 41,000-dwt tanker Seatrout (built 2006), controlled by German Tanker Shipping, was in ballast. It was leaving Antwerp at the time, bound for Russia.

An initial refloating attempt failed, but another will be made in the afternoon at high tide. Four tugs are at the scene.

The vessel is listing at 15 degrees.

The 69,000-dwt bulker Usolie (built 1990), operated by Harvester Shipmanagement of Cyprus, has continued on to Antwerp for an inspection. This ship was also in ballast.

Vessels longer than 200 metres have been banned from leaving Antwerp while the vessel remains aground, the port said.
