The Turkish government has lined up an auction for a product tanker that has been under arrested there since last year.
The Istanbul Bailiff's Office has invited bids for the 9,200-dwt tanker Orestina (built 2009), which is owned by Ton Shipping.
Clarksons lists it as under repair. The sales notice says it is currently lying at the Gentis Teresnasi shipyard in Tuzla, Istanbul.
Orestina has been appraised as worth TRY 40.06m ($5.36m) by the Bailiff's Office. VesselsValue assesses the tanker as worth $5.62m.
Starting bids will be at 50% of the Turkish assessment. A 20% deposit must be lodged before a bid can be made.
The deadline for offers is 2 November, with a second sale lined up on 30 November should the first fail.
Bids can be lodged online at a Turkish government website from 20 days before the first date.
The tanker is free from encumbrances, the Bailiff's Office said. Mortgage holders and other creditors must register claims with the bailiff.
Sistership failed to sell
The ship was part of the managed fleet of Germany's Intersee.
Last May, a sister vessel, Jop Shipping's 9,100-dwt tanker Olesya (built 2009), failed to sell at auction in Trinidad.
It was marketed by exclusive UK Admiralty broker CW Kellock.
The Gibraltar-flagged ship was put up for sale at the request of its mortgagee, Caterpillar Financial Services.
The Admiralty Marshal of Trinidad & Tobago ordered the auction.
Intersee did not respond to TradeWinds request for comment.
Orestina had been arrested in Trinidad since January 2018 or earlier for repairs to the main engine gearbox, which needed to be completed by any buyer.
Caterpillar also forced a sale of the 9,900-dwt MPP Lucina (built 2004) in December 2018.
