An Athens court has imposed a travel ban on Victor Restis, as part of a legal dispute that saw the Greek owner receiving a suspended ten-year jail sentence.

According to several press reports, including the state-run Athens News Agency (ANA), Restis will also have to report monthly at a local police station.

Restis officials and legal aides were not immediately available or did not respond to a request for comment by the time of writing.

TradeWinds understands Restis can request that the travel ban be removed by pleading special reasons, such as health or business needs. If not, the ban will remain in place until an appeal court hears the case.

Restis and four other people were found guilty of submitting false statements to authorities in a property deal near Athens.

The property turned out to be state land. Restis, who bought the land, claimed he was misled into doing so by former partners.

The court's sentencing took Restis’s “sincere remorse” as a mitigating factor into account, ANA reported.
