Norway's Viken Shipping has concluded time-charter arrangements for all three handysize tankers that the company bought last month from German KG (limited partnership) outfits managed by Rigel Schiffahrts.

European shipbroking sources said the Bergen-based shipowner has chartered the 37,000-dwt Zambezi Star (built 2010) to Trafigura Beheer, while sisterships Inviken and Yukon Star (both built 2009) have been taken by trader Vitol.

All charters are for one year at a rate of $11,500 per day.

No comment on deals

Viken chairman Hans Olav Lindal declined to comment on the deals.

The Hyundai Mipo Dockyard-built tankers had a reported price tag of $48.5m in total.

Viken’s commercial philosophy is to fix out its ships on long-term charters to quality operators.

The company owns 20 tankers ranging from 12,800 dwt to 156,000 dwt in size.

In May, the company sold its oldest tanker — the 12,800-dwt Angleviken (built 2005) — to Petrovietnam for $7.1m.

The company is also thought to be selling the 12,800-dwt tanker Askviken (built 2005).

Both ships had been on charter to Total, but have now been replaced by newbuildings.
