Marine engineering group ABB is launching a simplified digital system for ship operators to manage propulsion efficiency and emissions reporting, which it claims can provide savings of up to 20%.
ABB Turbocharging said its Tekomar XPERT marine system now comprises three modules that can provide insights into ship performance that lead to fuel savings.
New hull and propeller and emissions modules have been added to an existing engine solution, currently covering the performance of more than 8,000 operating engines, to extend the system’s capabilities.
The system will enable vessels to achieve improved carbon intensity index (CII) ratings and ease charterparty conformity on emissions reporting, the company said.
The emissions module allows pre-validated reporting in line with the International Maritime Organization’s CII rating and the EU’s Monitoring, Reporting & Verification requirements based on an automated reporting function and electronic logbook data.
CII ranking and its simulation is based on the operating parameters of vessels, as well as historic data.
The hull and propeller module will enable assessment of de-fouling requirements, which can have a significant positive impact on vessel performance, ABB added.
ABB Turbocharging said new modules will raise its digital offering to a new level.
“Fuel savings of up to three tons per day can be achieved by optimising performance of the engines alone, which translates to some nine tons of CO2 emissions per day,” it said.
The system, which functions across all engines regardless of make, type and age, can be integrated with existing data collection systems without the need for additional hardware, and users can view and benchmark fleets via a portal.
