Expanding Dutch multipurpose shipowner ForestWave Navigation has signed up to Finnish maritime technology company Seaber’s chartering and schedule optimisation software.

ForestWave, which commercially manages 35 MPPs in the 5,000 to 12,500-dwt range, aims to automate processes and reduce costs and emissions with the Seaber digital systems.

Shipowners and cargo owners can benefit from the web-based application to maximise efficiencies in time charter planning and scheduling, Seaber said.

In February, ForestWave acquired private equity-backed compatriot Symphony Shipping and its fleet of eight Ecobox vessels. They are now commercially operated by its wholly owned subsidiary Schulte & Bruns Nederland.

Managing director Fred Diepeveen said ForestWave is seeking creative, innovative technical solutions for the vessels it manages that lead to improved safety, reduced costs and eco-friendlier operations.

“Our aim is to maximise the utilisation of our vessels. There is such a wide range of possibilities when it comes to planning your contract cargoes while considering potential market cargoes and also positioning your fleet optimally,” he said.

“Emerging emission regulations will make this process even more complex.”

The software provides a visual user interface that automatically calculates relevant key performance indicators with a drag-and-drop move, Diepeveen said, helping to compare multiple scenarios quickly.

Seaber said its technology integrates seamlessly with existing software solutions such as voyage management systems.

In February, Finnish oil and energy group Neste agreed to a deal to use Seaber.io’s logistics planning systems for fleet scheduling and port calls.
