Norway’s Torvald Klaveness has revealed it is testing its Market Manager tool with the help of Lauritzen Bulkers.

This is the first client of its data-driven decision-making software to be named.

Market Manager has been developed by bulker owner Klaveness' dry bulk team.

It is used by the group's own chartering division and made available to third-party charterers and operators to improve decision-making.

The service examines industry trends and benchmarks, as well as vessel-specific information, to navigate the market.

Niels Josefsen, chief executive at Lauritzen Bulkers, said: “Over the past four years, Lauritzen Bulkers has transformed from a traditional shipowner and operator to a company with an increasing focus on active portfolio management.

“We strive to refine our knowledge-based business model and data-driven approach,” he added.

Michael Jorgensen, head of dry bulk at Klaveness, said his company continues to challenge the status quo for better outcomes.

“If we can assist like-minded operators in achieving the same efficiencies, it is only natural we share it. Collaborating with Lauritzen and learning from their feedback will be a welcome inclusion to our development process,” he added.

In February, Klaveness said it had struck a data-integration deal with environmental social and governance (platform RightShip to boost its decision-making service.

The partnership aims to improve its effectiveness.

The agreement with RightShip blends the commercial and technical expertise of both parties to fuel Market Manager with data corresponding to dry bulk vessel inspection status, safety scores and greenhouse gas ratings, the companies said.
