AIS data platform Maritime Optima is opening offices in Greece and Singapore.

The Oslo-based start-up — whose ShipIntel system uses a combination of AIS data and proprietary systems to help companies parse data — hired Christina Madamadiotou, formerly of Navtor, to head the Athens office and Wilhelmsen veteran Arne Bartnes to work in Singapore.

Chief executive Kristin Omholt-Jensen said: “I am extremely proud to welcome Christina Madamadiotou and Arne Bartnes...

“Both bring extensive experience from the shipping industry, along with valuable knowledge and network, and they both have the energy and passion for making Maritime Optima successful. Their contributions will undoubtedly be crucial in establishing Maritime Optima as a global leader.”

Maritime Optima was founded in 2018 and launched ShipIntel in 2021 with a user base topping 100,000.

The platform is designed to be a low-cost competitor to systems such as Sea/ or Kpler, as users can customise their experience with an a la carte menu of items like a position list or voyage calculator to meet their needs.

It most recently added artificial intelligence and machine learning functionality through a partnership with Microsoft that integrates ShipIntel with Microsoft software.

The company is backed by big-name investors including Exmar executive director Jens Ismar, 2020 Bulkers chief executive Herman Billung and Awilco LNG chief executive Jon Skule Storheill.

Madamadiotou will focus on southern Europe and the Middle East, while Bartnes will look to establish the company in the Far East.

Bartnes said: “I am very happy to join Maritime Optima at this exciting time, having followed the company’s impressive growth for some time.

“I am looking forward to collaborate with local industry leaders, expand our network and help Maritime Optima enhance its footprint in one of the world’s most dynamic maritime markets.”
