This would allow vessels to shut down their main engines while in port, cutting local emissions significantly.
Chief executive Daniel Skjeldam says the company is talking to central Norwegian ports to persuade them to install shore power capabilities at their terminals. Hurtigruten has installed the capabilities on four of its vessels already, even before the ports began to act.

Skjeldam says the timing of upgrading the rest of the company’s Norwegian coastal fleet will depend on the rollout plans across the country’s ports.
