Three French architects, working under the name 1week1project, have designed a 21st-century prison ship. But unlike the dark and dank prison ships of yesteryear, the inmates will be able to enjoy fresh air and beautiful ocean views.
The ship's two cell blocks would create sails 350 metres long by 100 metres high (1,150 feet by 328 feet). Each sail houses nine metre square cells, housing a total of some 3,300 "guests."
While the cell door would be traditional, the back of each cell would be open on the ocean side, allowing the cell blocks to also function as sails. The cell blocks mirror the design of the open-air sky cells in the TV show 'Game of Thrones'.
Along with fresh air, prisoners would also be allowed to work in the ship's self-sustaining vegetable garden, workshops or a gym.
But the guest list for this vessel will be exclusive. It is specifically limited to those financiers, government officials and others implicated in the 'Panama Papers' leak last year. The ship would sail off the coast of Panama so the detainees could reflect on their misdeeds.
No word yet on whether this newbuilding has received financing.
