Arkas Line of Turkey has ordered a replacement series of containerships at Huangpu Wenchong in China.

Brokers reported the owner has signed a deal for two 3,100-teu vessels for delivery in February and May 2020, without giving a price.

TradeWinds reported in July that the owner was in talks with a Chinese shipbuilder over a potential order for up to four ships.

This was to replace an earlier contract originally placed at a bankrupt Chinese shipbuilder.

Brokers suggested the order is for two firm vessels and two options.

Arkas was one of several containership owners that had vessels under construction at Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding, which filed for bankruptcy in May.

The company was listed with four 3,100-teu ships on order at Ouhua for delivery in June this year and April 2019. The vessels belonged to a series of eight ships booked in 2014 and 2015.

But Arkas told TradeWinds in May that the contract for the last four ships was terminated after the bankruptcy.
