A Hamburg Sud seafarer was tied up by a drugs gang in a raid on a boxship off Brazil.
The Globo daily reported that the 9,669-teu Cap San Marco (built 2013) was targeted by five criminals armed with rifles on Sunday, about 20km from the port of Santos.
Federal police said the gang attacked a 50-year-old Filipino sailor and remained on board for 45 minutes.
But the captain raised the alarm and the men escaped on two speed boats.
Federal authorities later found a container with a broken seal, but no illegal material within.
About 402kg of cocaine was then found in another box, but this was not planted during the raid off Santos, authorities believe. This box had originated in Paranagua.
The containership was bound for Spain.
Hamburg Sud said the matter was still being investigated.
