Germany's Reederei Harmstorf is eyeing a fleet expansion after appointing a new managing director.

Alexander Riecke was promoted in May to work alongside Thomas Meier-Hedde.

The company currently manages four boxships for MPC Container Ships after selling the vessels to its Oslo-listed partner for more than $38m.

Riecke told TradeWinds: "We are focusing on the future and with it we are planning to increase the number of ships again.

"We are working on different approaches, concerning third-party shipmanagement and self-initiated vessels."

Riecke has been with the company since 2010.

He was given power of attorney in February 2017 and has been responsible for commercial aspects since then.

Harmstorf was established in 2000 as an owner-managed shipping company.

Since 2012, Harmstorf has been in a partnership with the owner-managed Schlussel Reederei KG in Bremen.
