Japan's NYK and Mitsubishi Logistics Corp (MLC) are forming a joint holding company for domestic terminals.

NYK will have 51% of the combined entity, which will integrate the management of the four NYK Group terminal operating companies in Japan: UNI-X Corporation, Nippon Container Terminals (NCT), Asahi Unyu Kaisha and Yusen Koun.

The move is being made to improve quality and enhance long-term service stability for port and harbour transport, NYK said.

The holding company will be formed in November and UNI-X and NCT will merge in January, 2019.

NCT is already a joint venture between NYK and MLC, with NYK having 51%.
